Most people never look at their valves until something goes wrong. A zone stops coming on, or a section of yard stays soggy for days, or the water bill jumps and nobody can say why. That is usually the valves, and they rarely fail all at once.
Every sprinkler system runs on valves. Your timer sends a signal, the valve opens, and one zone of your yard gets water. Another valve for the front lawn, another for the beds, another for the back. When one goes bad, that whole zone either stops watering or never fully shuts off, and everything else keeps running like nothing happened. That is why a bad irrigation valve is easy to miss until the plants brown out or the bill comes in high.
This Temecula home got a fresh set. Four new valves mounted along the side of the house where you can actually get to them. We ran new PVC up to each one and glued every joint, wired them back to the timer, and kept the whole setup above ground and lined up instead of buried in a box full of dirt. That part matters more than it looks. When a valve is easy to reach, a repair is a quick visit. When it is buried under mulch behind a bush, you are paying somebody to find it before they can fix it.
Then we ran every zone one at a time and watched them. A new valve should open right away, shut all the way off, and hold. If one weeps after it closes, that is a leak that runs all day and never shows up as a puddle, just as a higher bill. We checked each one before we called it done.
Now every zone turns on when it is supposed to and shuts off when it is supposed to. The lawn gets its water, the beds get theirs, and the system does what the timer tells it. If anything ever needs attention, the valves are right there in the open where a fix takes minutes.
Bad valves do not fix themselves. They leak quietly, run up the bill, and get worse every month you leave them alone.
