Gas or wood?

Gas if you want it on in ten seconds with no smoke, no ash, and no wood pile. Wood if the crackle and the smell are the whole point for you. Gas is what most people end up choosing, and it is the reason their pit gets used on a Tuesday and not just on holidays.

Do I need a gas line, or can I use propane?

Either works. We can hide a propane tank inside the base with an access door, or run a line off the house so you never think about it again. The line costs more up front and less forever.

How far does it need to be from the house?

Far enough that heat and smoke are not hitting the wall or the eaves, and placed with the wind in mind so nobody is sitting in the smoke all night. We work that out on site, because it is different in every backyard.

How big should it be?

Smaller than most people expect. A tighter pit keeps everyone close enough to talk, which is the whole point. We size it around your seating so the circle feels right.

Round or square?

Round puts everyone the same distance from the fire and reads more traditional. Square and rectangular sit tighter against a patio edge or into a corner, and line up better with straight seat walls. It usually comes down to the shape of the space.

Can we sit close enough to feel it?

That is the whole design. Seat height, distance from the fire, and the size of the surround all work together. Get it right and people stay out there all night. Get it wrong and it feels like watching a campfire from across the yard.

Can I burn wood here?

Mostly yes. There are occasional air quality days when wood burning is restricted, which is worth knowing but does not stop anyone. If it matters to you, we will go over it when we come out.
