The patio is usually the least used part of the house between about eleven and four. Too much sun, no shade, and the furniture out there is hot to sit on. So you use it in the evening, or you do not use it at all.
A patio cover gives you that time back. It attaches to the back of the house, shades the whole area, and it is noticeably cooler underneath.
We build ours with a wood frame and an aluminum top. You get the look of a wood cover with a roof that actually sheds water. No water sitting on top of boards, and you are not up on a ladder resealing every couple of years the way you would be with an all wood cover.

How We Build Them
A patio cover is a structure. It sits over the spot where people are, it takes rain, wind, and sun year round, and it is anchored to the slab and tied into your house. Most of what separates a good one from a cheap one happens before anything goes up.
The Layout
Where it goes and how big it needs to be. Most people want it over the patio. Some want it off to the side or over a seating area somewhere else in the yard. We figure that out with you first, because everything else gets built around it.
The Frame
Real lumber for the posts and beams. Post size and beam depth get picked for the span, not to save money on material. It gets anchored to the slab and tied into the house so it holds up to wind and stays where it is.
The Roof
Aluminum on top. That is the part taking the weather all year, and it is where all wood covers give people the most trouble. Water sits on flat boards and soaks in. Aluminum sheds it and there is nothing up there to reseal.
The Fit
Built to your patio, not a stock width. Attached to the house or freestanding, depending on where it is going.
