This backyard in Murrieta, CA started as bare dirt. Our crew at Palacios Landscaping rebuilt it from the ground up with new sod, decorative rock, fresh plants, and concrete curbs to outline each section. The new layout features a clean green lawn in the center, a planting strip along the fence, and a rock lane on the side that adds contrast and helps with drainage.
We graded the yard first and the surface was compacted so the lawn sits solid and drains the right way. After that, we set the forms and poured a continuous concrete curb around the lawn. This curb is your border and your mower edge. It keeps grass, rock, and mulch where they belong and gives the yard a straight, sharp outline.
Next came the sod. We laid it in a brick pattern, pulled the seams tight, and cut the edges to fit tight against the curb and patio. Then we rolled the lawn to knock out air pockets so it roots in faster. The result is instant green with clean lines that make the yard look finished.
On the rock side, we put down landscape fabric and installed a layer of decorative pebbles. The rock gives you a dry path, handles runoff, and breaks up the look so the yard doesn’t feel crowded. It also means less mud and less mess after watering or rain.
Along the fence, we planted a simple row of shrubs and a few flowering plants for color. Holes were dug to the right depth, backfilled with good soil, and the area was mulched to hold moisture and cut down on weeds. Plants have space to grow, so the bed will fill in without getting overgrown.
We wrapped up with a final edge cut, sweep, and haul-off. Joints in the curb were set so it can move a bit without cracking, and all borders line up straight from corner to corner.
