Durable 3500 PSI Concrete Walkway & Side Yard Expansion in Menifee, CA
Reinforced Concrete Installation for Walkways, Pads & Home Upgrades in Menifee, CA
Palacios Landscaping of Riverside County, CA
When a home has open dirt sections next to the walkway, expanding the concrete is an easy way to make the space more usable. At this Menifee, CA home, the client wanted a wider, cleaner walkway and a smoother path along the side of the house, so we extended the existing concrete to give them more solid ground to work with. They reached out to Palacios Landscaping for a durable concrete upgrade that would tie into the existing slab and hold up over time.
We began by laying out the new sections that would extend the original walkway and side yard area. The open dirt and gravel spaces were excavated to the right depth, graded, and compacted to create a solid base. You can see in the photos how the new areas were prepared to match the height and slope of the existing concrete. Around the water and irrigation lines we framed a separate section, leaving clear access so the client can service valves and plumbing in the future without breaking concrete.
Once the base was ready, we set our forms for the new walkway and pads, lining them up with the old slab so everything would blend together. On the curved run along the side, we used flexible forms to follow the existing border and keep a smooth, clean edge. Inside the forms, we installed a grid of rebar and tied it together. This reinforcement helps the concrete resist cracking and shifting from daily use.
After everything was double-checked, we poured the concrete mix. The crew worked it into the forms, leveled each section, and floated the surface to get a smooth, even finish. The new concrete was tied into the old slab so the transition feels natural when you step from one section to the other. Control joints were planned into the layout so if the concrete ever moves, it cracks along neat lines instead of randomly across the surface.
As the concrete set, we gave it a clean, uniform finish that is easy to walk on. The new square pads leading from the front area toward the yard create a clear path and break up the space in a nice way. Once the forms come off and the surrounding soil is graded, this area is ready for plants, rock, or other landscaping around the new hard surface.
This project gives the property a wider, stronger walkway and side yard that will stay level and dependable for years. The 3500 PSI concrete is built to handle daily foot traffic and regular use, and with the reinforced base it should last a long time.
