Look up at your palms. Brown fronds hanging down against the trunk, seed pods weighing down over the driveway, dead growth built up under the top. That is what this Temecula home had going on. A whole row of queen palms down the driveway, looking good from the street, just ready for a trim once you look up.
Palms build that up fast, and none of it stays up there. A dead frond hangs on until a windy day, then drops, and they weigh more than they look. The pods are the bigger hassle. They fall all over the driveway and the rock beds, and the seeds sprout little palms in the gravel that somebody has to pull out.
So we went up and cleaned them out, one tree at a time. Everything dead came off. The pods came down before they could fall on their own. The good green fronds stayed. A palm feeds itself through those green fronds, so cutting too many off just to make it look skinny hurts the tree for years. You want it clean, not stripped.
Then comes the long part. Everything we cut landed on the driveway and in the rock, so we picked it all up, hauled it off, raked the beds, and blew the driveway down before we left.
Now the trunks are clean, the tops are full and green, and nothing brown is hanging over the cars. The whole front of the house looks sharp. No pods in the gravel, no sweeping the driveway twice a week. Yours can look the same.
