This Murrieta house had water pooling on the side every time it rained. The strip between the house and the fence is narrow, maybe a few feet wide, and all the roof and yard runoff ends up funneled through it. Gravel had been put down along the foundation at some point, but gravel only cleans up the surface. The water still had nowhere to go, so it sat against the wall and soaked in right where you least want it.

So we gave it a way out.

We dug the trench by hand, starting on the side of the house, running the length of the wall, around the front corner, past the tree in the front yard, and out to the curb. Hand digging is slower, but next to a foundation and around tree roots it is the only way to do it without breaking a line or cutting a root you cannot put back.

Then we laid the drain line, solid PVC in one continuous run with every joint glued so nothing leaks or pulls apart underground. We set an opening at the low spot on the side yard to catch the water as it comes down. From there the pipe carries it away from the house, under the front yard, and out to the street. Once we checked the line, we backfilled the trench, packed it down, and cleaned the yard up behind us.

Now the water leaves on its own. No puddles against the house, no soft muddy ground on the side yard days after a storm.
